Are vegan egg alternatives the future?
Veganuary is in full swing, with over 800 brand spanking new vegan products being put onto shelves in supermarkets across the country. In recent years it has gained popularity, with one person signing up to take part every 2.4 seconds this year.
In recent years, 85% of participants have subsequently reduced their animal product intake after taking part in Veganuary, with 23% of non-vegan participants remaining vegan long after January ended.
However, 20% of participants of Veganuary 2021 said their biggest challenge was missing non-vegan foods, with 14% saying they felt the absence of eggs over any other non-vegan food.
If this sounds like you, fear not. We have found a great deal for a vegan egg alternative. Hey, even if you aren’t vegan, or are not taking part in Veganuary, give this product a chance. Many bakers have been prompted to use OGGS, a vegan egg alternative, in their edible goodies due to the recent nationwide egg shortage.
OGGS supplies plant-based egg alternatives make from chickpea water, commonly known as aquafaba. The company have been conducting trials with two of the UK’s largest bakery manufacturers, according to the business.
The egg industry has seen sharp cost increases in recent months, with many egg farmers ceasing production altogether. The cost of using energy to heat animal enclosures, the spread of bird flu and increased animal feed prices have all contributed to the increased cost of eggs.
OGGS also said they are not trying to totally vegan-ise existing bakeries and manufacturers, but rather they want to encourage the occasional swaps to reduce the environmental impacts and mitigate ever-increasing expenses.
The benefits, according to OGGS include 95% less saturated fat and 85% less calories compared to eggs. Similarly, there could be an 85% reduction in carbon impact by making the switch.
