Attention, Target shoppers.
The big-box retailer is giving us more opportunities to get our grocery staples while limiting interactions with others.
After successful test runs at stores near its Minneapolis headquarters and in the Kansas City market, Target is enhancing its grocery pickup services nationwide to include about 750 fresh and frozen food items.
Previously, if you wanted to get groceries like milk, bread, chicken breasts or frozen vegetables, you wouldn’t be able to order them online and use Target’s in-store pickup or drive-up services. If you needed dairy, produce, meat, bakery items or frozen products and did not want to go into the store to shop for them, you had to use a grocery delivery service like Shipt or Instacart and pay the associated fees plus tips.
Target’s in-store pickup and drive-up services, on the other hand, do not come with any additional costs to customers, and there is no minimum order requirement.
Online orders are typically ready within a few hours. The drive-up option provides a contactless way to get your order, which is important to many customers amid COVID-19 concerns.
A Sykes Enterprises survey of 3,000 U.S. adults found that 37% ordered groceries online for the first time as a result of the pandemic and 23% plan to use curbside pickup on a long-term basis.
“During a time when even more people are looking for different ways to get the items they need, we’ll continue to invest in making Target the easiest and safest place to shop,” John Mulligan, Target’s chief operating officer, said in a press release.
The company has rolled out this enhanced grocery pickup service to over 400 stores in Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Utah and Wisconsin. It plans to expand this service to more than 1,500 stores across the country before the end of the year.
